First look: Details, renderings of MidCity at Madison Square Mall in Huntsville

Thirty-two years ago this month, the hallways of Madison Square were overflowing with guests as the area’s first regional Super Mall celebrated its grand opening in the Rocket City.

It’s a different, but hopeful story today at the struggling shopping center on busy University Drive.

Supporters of Councilman Will Culver joined representatives from local developer RCP Companies on Monday evening to learn about the future of the two-story enclosed property, which will be torn down in the coming months to make way for MidCity Huntsville.

“We knew when we purchased Madison Square Mall … that a generation of memories had been made here,” RCP Director Odie Fakhouri told attendees. “And we also knew that the current state of Madison Square Mall was a very sad one and that it would take a lot of work to bring it back to life, but we took on this project because we wanted to help revitalize this corridor of Huntsville to improve the quality of life for young people and their families and to enable people to act on the opportunities that are not present since the grand opening of Madison Square Mall in 1984.”
